Abstract

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease considered one of the re-emerging diseases of the 21st century, caused by Leptospira interrogans. It is an acute and nonspecific febrile illness, described as endemic in the tropical regions of the planet, including the Central American area. The case of a 10-year-old female with generalized jaundice is reported, associated with abdominal pain of approximately two weeks of evolution at the time of her admission. It presented as self-limited jaundice due to a Leptospira infection, which triggered hepatic cholestasis without other organ involvement. 1 The jaundiced form is described in the minority, 5-40% of cases, one of the least frequent, but with greater severity and mortality.
